ASUU Finally Suspends 3 Months Strike- Signed MoA with FG

Finally, university students can resume school as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has just reached an agreement with the Nigerian Federal Government (FG).

The indicators that showed that ASUU will call off its 3 months strike just came on in the evening of Thursday, February 7,2019. The report states that the association has reached an agreement with the federal government.
It would interest you to know that form the information gathered by INFOPADI, the agreement was signed by both the leadership of ASUU and the federal government representatives after a series of meetings that began last year (2018).
It was also gathered that the lecturers, gave their word to call of the strike but said they would not fail to continue the strike if the Federal Government did not keep to its promise which is the Memorandum of Action (MoA) they signed.
Vice chancellors of universities were also warned against “act of impunity, nepotism antithetical to university culture by the ASUU body.
The referendum held in February, was to decide whether the industrial action which has crippled activities in the nation’s universities for three months will be suspended or continue the strike action until the federal government meets the demands of the lecturers. As gathered, the referendum was organized by the national leadership of the union which directed its coordinators at the zones to meet with their various chairmen over the action.
In an attempted effort to resolve issues that brought about the ASUU’s over 3 months strike, the Nigerian federal government approved the release of 16.8 billion Naira to settle the outstanding salary arrears of university lecturers.
NOTE
At the early ours of February 7, the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) vowed to cause chaos at election voting sites if the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) was not resolved.
It seems there would be no need for that afterall
