Requirements for TIN Registration in Nigeria

TIN can be applied in two categories, which are

  • As an individual
  • For Business

For Individuals

  • National Identification Number (NIN) or BVN

  • Valid ID card (National ID, Voter’s card, International passport, or Driver’s license)

  • Utility bill (for address verification)

For Businesses

  • Company’s Memorandum & Articles of Association

  • Company seal or stamp

  • Directors’ valid ID cards

How to Register for Tax Identification Number (TIN)

The registration can be done either from online or through FIRS office and the process is pretty straightforward. To register/apply, follow the procedures below.

1. To Register Online 

  • Visit the Joint Tax Board (JTB) TIN portal – https://tin.jtb.gov.ng

  • Click “Register for TIN”

  • Select Individual or Non-Individual (Company/Business)

  • Fill in your details (Name, BVN/NIN, Address, Email, Phone)

  • Upload required documents (CAC certificate for companies, ID card for individuals)

  • Submit and wait for approval

  • Once approved, your TIN will be generated, and you can download it from the portal.

2. Register at FIRS Office

  1. Visit the nearest Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) office in your state.

  2. Request a TIN application form. The form is gotten free of charge. Beware of fraudsters who demand money.

  3. Fill in all the required fields with your company’s business information, including the company name, registration number, and address.

  4. Submit when you are sure all details are filled correctly.

  5. Once the form is completed and documents are uploaded, your TIN will be issued (usually within 48–72 hours)

  1. Visit https://tin.jtb.gov.ng

  2. Click “Verify TIN”

  3. Enter your BVN, NIN, or Registered Business Name

  4. Your TIN details will be displayed instantly
