UN Volunteer assignments are advertised on the Unified Volunteering Platform. In order to apply for assignments, candidates need to register in the Global Talent Pool.
In order to create an account on UNV’s Unified Volunteering Platform (UVP), you must be at least 18 years old. Creating a full profile should take about 45 minutes. You can access your account at any time to add information and keep your profile up to date.
If you are interested in becoming a UN Volunteer it is important to know the options available to you
As a candidate, you can apply for onsite assignments to:
- volunteer abroad (international assignments)
- volunteer in your home country (national assignments)
- or for online assignment to donate your time and skills for peace and development over the internet.
Important Notice: the status of volunteers differs for onsite and online assignments. Online volunteers share their time and expertise voluntarily and do not receive financial compensation of any kind.

How to Apply for UN Volunteers Recruitment
Before you apply, it is important you meet the basic requirements, you must have the relevant work experience.
The term ‘relevant work experience in the list of basic registration requirements for UN Volunteers typically refers to the experience that is related to your academic or professional qualification(s). It may have been acquired through employment, internships or volunteer engagement and represents your area(s) of expertise.
To be eligible for international specialist assignments, you should have at least three years of relevant work experience.
To be considered a suitable candidate, you also need to meet the specific requirements listed in the Description of Assignment. These requirements can vary greatly depending on the volunteer category and the responsibilities of the UN Volunteer.
For example, for UN Youth Volunteers, work experience of less than one year may be sufficient, while a UN Expert assignment may require 15 years of relevant professional experience.
