At first it sounded like a joke when the fastest man on earth, Usain Bolt announced that he would be pursuing a career in soccer (football).
He has traveled to various countries and A list clubs for trials but it seems he will be settling down for a career in Australia.
This is because Usain Bolt is prepared to get a first taste of competitive football on Friday the 31st of August, 2018 in a game that has been on every major news headlines.
The game has been widely talked about and the Olympics record holde has admitted that he is nervous with his fitness levels as he hasn’t gotten to the point he wants to get to.
As stated above he is set to play the first competitive game of his football career, however he might only be given 15 minutes play time for Australia’s Central Coast Mariners in a friendly against an amateur side.
The outcome of this match would determine if he will get the playing contract he desires and become a professional footballer has he has always wanted to be.
The match has gained so much attention and it’s going to be broadcast live on pay TV. The fans are not left out as over 10,000 of them are set to watch the game at the Central Coast Stadium. This would have normally been a low-key pre-season fixture, but the sprint superstar has brought a sense of anticipation to the club.
The club he is making his debut for, finished bottom of the domestic A-League last season.
It is definitely not a doubt that all eyes will be on the eight-time Olympic champion.
As a matter of fact a local paper company is planning on distributing 100,000 cardboard cut-out face masks of Usain Bolt for fans to wear.
Usain Bolt had this to say
“There will be nerves, definitely. It’s not like a charity game anymore, this is a career I’m pursuing. “
“I expect to make mistakes, but I also expect to go in, make myself proud and push myself.”
So what do you think of this?
Will he make it in this new career part?
Well let’s hope for the best as the game is just hours away.
