Tips to Stay Safe from Covid-19| What to do when someone get the Corona Virus

Spread the love

There have been a lot of recommendations for how to avoid getting the dreaded Corona Virus. We have been encouraged to practice social distancing, personal hygiene, using hand sanitizers etc. This is very good but there is not enough information on what to do if/when someone gets the corona virus.

We at Info Padi will be sharing some important information with you as sourced from various health practitioners and journals.

Things to do if you contact Corona Virus

Isolate yourself

This cannot be over emphasized, it is important you avoid contact with people for the time being. You can contact the NCDC via there call centre lines and they will attend to you asap.

Things you should buy ahead of time against Corona Virus

Kleenex, PCM, Mucus Thinning Cough medicine of choice

Honey and Lemon cam also work in place of the cough medicine.

Vick Vaporub for your chest is also a good suggestion.

If you can buy a humidifier, it would really come in handy. You can use it in your room when you go to bed overnight. You can also just turn on your hot shower and sit in the bathroom breathing in the steam (something like a sauna)

If you have history of asthma and you have a prescription inhaler, make sure the one you have isn’t expired and refill it/get a new one if necessary.

Buy a lot of dry foodstuffs that can stay for a long period of time- rice, garri, beans etc

Get a lot of water and your preferred beverages.

How to manage Corona Virus Symptoms

  1. If you have fevers over 38˚C take pcm rather than ibuprofen.
  2. Drink a lot of water. You must be properly hydrated.
  3. Rest a lot indoors. You shouldn’t be seen roaming about. Even if you feel better you may still be infectious for fourteen days and older people/ people with existing health conditions should be avoided.
  4. You can tell your friends and family to leave supplies outside your door to avoid contact.
  5. You may not need to go to the hospital except you are having difficulty in breathing or your fever is very high (over 39˚C) and unmanaged with medication.

It is believed that 80% of healthy adult cases thus far have been managed at home. We do hope this statistics is correct as our existing facilities in Nigeria can’t withstand much pressure.

The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar in children and adults. However, children with confirmed COVID-19 have generally presented with mild symptoms.

Reported symptoms in children include cold-like symptoms, such as

  • fever
  • Runny nose and cough.
  • Vomiting and diarrhea have also been reported.
