PERFECT CV FORMAT 2019- How to write that awesome CV

The CV would be divided into 5 parts

Part 1your personal details

Name, address, age, phone number, email etc, ensure you put this information in a strategic location and in legible fonts, easily noticeable by the employer and make sure the information supplied are correct and current.

Part 2education and qualifications (from the highest to the lowest)

M.Sc/B.Sc- SSCE- FSLC

You can insert your CGPA if you have an awesome grade, but it’s not compulsory.

Part 3work experience (current experience to oldest experience)
Ensure you link your job experience with the position you are currently applying for. This will increase the employer’s preference for you.

Part 4interests/Abilities

It is advisable you keep this section short. As you gather more working experience, this part would be reducing greatly. Key things to note here are:

  • Avoid common words – words such as ‘Team player’, ‘Motivated’ etc are good but try to be more creative.
    • Specify your hobbies – You can replace ‘running’ with ‘I sprint 100 km everyday’. This shows you are very active.
    • You can show your leadership skills here– I was Labor/Sanitation Prefect of INFOPADI HIGH SCHOOL, Abuja from 2010 to 2011. As a Labor/Sanitation Prefect, I won 3 awards for keeping the school clean and safe.
    • Add any other interests that are relevant to the job you are applying for.

Part 5- References
It is normal to present 2 referees- one academic ref (from your lecturer or project supervisor) and the other from an employer (perhaps from your internship/NYSC PPA).

CONCLUSION

The fewer the pages of your CV, the greater attention it receives. Your CV shouldn’t be looking like university hand-outs. Ideally, a good CV for someone without work experience shouldn’t be more than 2 pages. Therefore, be direct, clear and convincing with what you have written down.

Check out for grammatical errors and misspellings. Use proper font (e.g Times New Roman, Verdana). The normal font size for a CV is 12. Use larger sizes for subheads.

You can go back and check your CV if it’s according to standard. You can also write a new one if you desire. The main point is you must be creative, remember you are not the only one seeking for that position.
